OVERVIEW OF THE EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION PROGRAMME (ECCE)
Once Upon a Time takes part in the ECCE government scheme.
In January 2010 the Government introduced the ECCE scheme. It is a programme that provides a free pre-school year.
The objective of the ECCE programme is to benefit children in the development period prior to starting school. Children are eligible to avail of the programme where they are aged between 3 years 3 months and 4 years six months on the 1st of September of that year.

Aistear is the new early childhood curriculum framework for children from birth to six years in Ireland. Aistear is the Irish word for journey. This is fitting as early childhood marks the beginning of children’s lifelong learning journey.
Aistear has 2 parts, Part 1 sets out 4 themes, Wellbeing, Identity and Belonging, Communicating and Exploring and Thinking.
